He is NOT
currently a terrorist. If he were, Israel would not deal
with him, and _he_ would not be involved in negotiating
peace in the west bank with Israeli leaders.
Let
me explain to you what would happen to Yassar Arafat if
he were currently involved in terrorist activities:
The Mossad would put a bullet in his head, or
the IDF would destroy his vehichle with a gunship, or
they would take him into custody.
Israeli is
nothing if not effective, relentless, and ruthless when
they know where a threat exists. Israeli intelligence in
that region is excellent, and I assure you, they would
not sit at a table and negotiate anything with him if he
were currently involved in terrorist activities.

As with recent
unprecedented events in history, a thread on the Veeshan
board of EQvault was reported to have gone over 200
posts with no content regarding Celestial Tomb or Fires
of the Heavens until one of our own employees had to
'blow off some steam'.

i work at CNN and have been
eating, sleeping, breathing this insanity since the
second it happened. I need to laugh at something, sorry
if you were offended. I think it was fairly obvious that
it was supposed to poke fun at the whole CT v. FoH
thing. this is a damn game afterall...
as for
lowering the tone of conversation. this is a
messageboard. it doesnt accomplish anything. it is
merely a place where people express whatever they
want/need to.
a nice change of pace has been the
relatively positive tone of most of the stuff in light
of this insanity.
I know it is not possible to
read context into a post on a messageboard. People who
know me realize taht i like to say silly things, both to
bring a smile to my face as well as theirs. that is the
beginning and end of it really.

the WebMaster's and Web Designers not to mention the
Administrators had a hell of a day. Also i think a small
amount of humor is good it means things are returning to
normal but we must not forget.

I've posted
this in a couple of places. It's a recount of my day on
September 11 2001.
I took my train into
Newark as I always do, the 6:32 out of Princeton
Junction. I get to Newark and take the path train into
the trade center. I left the trade center and walked
down Trinity for 3 blocks, pick up my bagel w/ cream
cheese. i cut over to broadway to my building which just
south of Rector st. I go in, refill my water bottle,
browse some websites while eating. Then start to polish
off a regulatory report due next Monday.
Then my
fiance calls, who works for a newswire service over in
Jersey City. "David, a plane just crashed into the 80th
floor of the World Trade Center!" "What was that? I've
got to see this". A person in the cube diagonal from me
asked me what was wrong. I told him and we proceeded to
walk to the corner of the building we can see the Trade
Center out of (our building is no more than 300-400
yards away from the center). We are on the 9th floor and
look up and there it was, 15-20 floors on fire. The 3 of
us in the room start to concoct various theories for
about 30 or 40 seconds (time of events is extremely
difficult to remember).
I take the elevator down
to see the comotion-women crying, men dazed. Then, what
felt like 10 seconds later, there was a boom, the ground
shook. Everyone started to run past me screaming. I run
up the steps, grab my bag, call my fiance, she tells me
to head to the water, walk north towards mid-town and
try to catch the ferry at Chelsea Piers. I told her I
loved her, ran down the steps, ran into a co-worker and
friend looking shell-shocked. "Brian, we've got to get
the hell out of here, Brian! Out!" I got the fuck out of
Dodge.
I head south towards the water. Some are
crying, some are huddled, where boadway splits, some
were standing by the bull staring in disbelief.
I kept walking, thinking that planes are just
going to start falling out of the sky bombarding any and
all tall buildings. I try to use my cell phone to call
my mom to let her know I was ok, no luck. Try maybe 5 or
6 times, nothing. Finally, I get through. i stop
walking, now by the ferry to staten island. Let her know
everything is ok and that I'm walking north. Paper is
falling out of the sky. Paper from a building now 8 or 9
blocks away.
I get off the phone, then start my
walk up the FDR I think. I stop near the near the south
street seaport, look up, and, literally, thousands of
people are walking across the brooklyn bridge. It was an
exodus to get out of the city. Noone was running, they
were just walking, occasionally looking over their
shoulders.
I begin to walk again, I hear another
boom. More people run past me crying. I walk backwards
and see white smoke plums. People are asking a cop what
that was. This wasn't another building hit, this was one
which fell. The fucking trade center fell down.
I'm already a little north of the damage path so
I only get a little soot on me. I pick up a charred
peice of paper, now at least 15 blocks away, and put it
in my bag. I start walking again. I begin to cut over
west a little once i get into the area near greenwich
village. I know the roads there, and felt more
comfortable walking down them. People young and old are
out of their apartments talking. The people who came
from the area just keep walking.
I finally am
able to pick up a couple of water bottles, one which was
finished before putting the cap back on. Some people
have their cars turned on in the street playing news
reports aloud for others to hear. The residents stare at
me as I continue to walk north.
I eventually get
to 17th street. My uncle works there and I wanted to
tell him I was ok. Phones were still useless, this was
the only way. They had already evacuated. The building
guard advised me that my uncle took a van and started to
drive the kids who were stranded home (he works
educating mentally handicapped children). "Figures, just
like him".
I'm at 22nd and Park, I go into a
conveniant store and buy a pack of cigarettes. I ask a
group of 5 people sitting outside what street chelsea
piers is on. They tell me that they are heading there
also and invited me to join them.
While walking
there, each person told their own story. Two worked at 1
liberty (across the street from the trade center) and
were in a meeting. They bolted so fast that one of them
forgot to take his car keys. They saw people jumping. i
would have puked if my bagel wasn't digested already.
Two women worked in the trade center, 59th floor. Ann, a
blonde woman in her mid-30's said she panicked and was
going to stay in the buliding until her friend, the
other woman,Jean, a spitfire 5'1" woman in her fifties
coming from trenton every morning, pulled her and forced
her to leave with her.
We get to chelsea piers
and wait for about 2 hours on line. The ferry was going
to jersey city now because hoboken must have reached its
capacity. On the water, a half mile away, we could all
see what really happened. Additional buildings in the
vicinity were on fire, dust clouds stretched all the way
down to the south end of the city. Everyone was saddened
and exhausted and sickened and angry.
They were
decontaminating the people who were dirty once we got
off of the boat. Took the bus to the train and then the
train home. A trip that began around 9:15 or so ended at
6:30.
